Our colour palate is very simple, its neutral tones connecting to the earth, conveying a serene and timeless purity. It creates a vision of light, airy, fresh, calm and peaceful surroundings, perfect for a beach house in the Hamptons. The rawness of the Irish linen texture captures the essence of nature and our rich heritage. This original Bow cushion is one of our signature statement pieces, a piece to treasure. Like all our linen cushions it is designed to be mix and matched with the whole collection, all complimenting each other in style, material, texture and elegance.
Each piece has been carefully constructed with precision and attention to detail using natural fibres, that is natural cloth, natural thread, natural lining and high quality duck feather and down fillers. We embrace traditional handmade artisan skills so each cushion has a precious individual beauty. This fabulous large decorative bow has been designed with a sculptural approach which gives us an object that combines artistry and functionality. The unique basketweave linen is of a heavyweight type that enables the bow to keep it’s voluminous structure. The thick weave provides a very visible surface effect of the unbleached and undyed raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft, intertwined with white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful chequer-work effect.
Our ideas are influenced by both couture fashion and historical photographs of the local Linen industry. Pretty bows appear on 1950s ballgown embellishments of Dior and the celebrated irish designer Sybil Connolly through to modern day haute couture creations by Valentino and Giambattista Valli, whether in the form of oversized sweeping fabric or in tiny intricate details. Photographs illustrating life from the old linen mills capture fascinating details, from bundles of fabric ready for bleaching that are looped and tied up with a knot in the middle which resemble flamboyant bows, to the simple but elaborate rags worn in the hair of a child workers in a group portrait from West Belfast in the 1920s. The motif of the bow that recurrs so often, has now been transformed in our collection into an eleghan home accessory.

What Makes Irish Linen So Special
Known as ‘the aristocrat of textiles’ and referred to as ‘white gold’ it really is a superb and unique fabric. Katie Larmour Design studio is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the home of the Irish Linen industry. Ireland was the world leader at the height of linen production a century ago, and what once was a cottage industry and then turned large scale, has now come full circle. Irish linen is again produced in small quantities today to a luxury niche market. We are passionate about keeping this wonderful textile alive. To add to its desirability in this modern world of today Irish Linen has plenty of appealing eco-friendly properties: it is cultivated using little water, without fertilisers or pesticides; it is sustainable and the whole of the natural plant is used making it a waste-free crop. Basically grown as a weed it is transformed into the most luxurious of fabrics today. All our Irish Linen is certified by the Irish Linen Guild.
Lead time estimated two weeks.
Our original design is in natural oatmeal basketweave Irish Linen.
We also create bespoke nursery cushions of appropriately small size in a range of sweet Irish Linen pastels; pale pink, baby blue and soft yellow.
This design will always be available in ‘oatmeal basketweave’ and ‘plain oatmeal’.
International customers may inquire for a cushion cover only, without fillers, if preferred.
